Proper keyword research and analysis along with a working knowledge of SEO strategies contribute to Tony’s continued success in placing business websites high up in search engine results pages. There is no mystery where SEO search engine optimisation is concerned, it is very much an exact science. The major search engines have a policy which applies to all, it’s very much a question of ‘playing by their rules’ – or learn the hard way! There are many web design businesses who say they “specialise in search engine optimization” – the majority of web designers I’ve had the pleasure of speaking to have little working knowledge of the intricacies of SEO beyond reciprocal link trading, which is nowhere near the extent of knowledge needed in order to promote a business or product on the internet. In fact, link trading doesn’t even scratch the surface. Strangely enough, I was discussing this very subject with a friend and local businessman who wanted to know about SEO strategies because he is about to embark upon a business venture which would benefit greatly from publicity on the internet. I think he was surprised at the depth and scope of ethical SEO techniques. I guess it’s like anything else in life, there are those people who “say they can do” and those “who DO what they say!” – I guarantee where SEO is concerned, I’m proud to say that I fall into the latter category. I hope I haven’t bored you too much already going on about SEO techniques, it’s important to have a well-featured website as well otherwise good or bad SEO practices don’t really mean very much at all…
No then, there seems to be a mixed opinion regarding business website functionality. One the one hand there are web designers who believe ‘design’ is of paramount importance.’ Let’s take a step backwards and look at this logically.
Yes, I would certainly agree it is a good idea to have a nice looking website, – as far as holding interest of potential customers is concerned, but that’s about it. Let me explain.
So many times I’ve seen vast amounts of money spent on web design features, – many of which are superfluous, because design isn’t really so important. What IS important is a well-structured SEO framework which should be seamlessly woven into the web site’s design. Quite simply; what’s the point in having a beautiful-looking website if nobody can find it! – Get the point?
A good tip: spend 65% of your budget on SEO and the remaining 35% on design and your business won’t go far wrong!
